Could You Be a Mentor for a Young LGBTQIA+ Person in Lochaber?

I wanted to follow up on my last post on our WhatsApp page about MCR Pathways and their search for volunteer mentors at Lochaber High School — and add something that feels especially important for our community.
Growing up as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community here in Lochaber can be incredibly isolating. Many of us know first-hand what it’s like to feel different, unseen, or unsure where to turn. Having even one supportive adult from within the community — someone who understands, someone who gets it — can make a world of difference to a young person finding their way.
That’s why I’m reaching out again to ask if anyone in our group, facebook community, or member might be interested in becoming a mentor. You don’t need experience. You don’t need qualifications. You just need an hour a week during school time, a willingness to listen, and the heart to show up for a young person who could really benefit from seeing someone like them thriving here in the Highlands.
If you identify as LGBTQIA+, your visibility matters more than you might realise. It’s one of the most powerful tools we have for breaking down stigma and showing young people that they have a future here — that they belong, that they’re valued, and that they’re not alone.
Chris from MCR Pathways has kindly offered to run an information session just for us. He’ll explain what mentoring involves, the support you’ll receive, and answer any questions before anyone commits to anything.
If you think this might be something you could offer — or even if you’re just curious — let me know and I’ll confirm the date and time for the session. Iain_Millar@Lochaberpride.org
Your presence could change a young person’s life. Truly.
